Specs Below

So, the other day I let my BIOS update through Asus AI suite within the OS. I clicked restart and carried out my day... came back a few hours later to find a pc with all of the LED's on the various components (cooler and graphics card) but no power to my Razer keyboard (however there was power going to my iLok USB (it has a small blue light)) or screen. I restarted it multiple times did not POST or turn on screens (both never came out of sleep) and kept giving me a q-code of 09 (pch initialization after microcode loading). I then proceeded to download the BIOS update on my Surface Pro to my flashdrive. I then used Asus's dual BIOS feature to load the bios without actually entering the BIOS (pc power was off). It updated successfully. I restarted and still.... nothing. I then went back and downloaded older BIOS files and flashed them... all successful installs but still nothing.... I then proceeded to order an MSI Z270 board to fix the issue... because this seems like a mobo issue. I installed it and still nothing... exact same issues. I reseated the RAM... removed the RAM.... switched the RAM around... bought RAM from BestBuy still nothing. I then proceeded to do every single troubleshooting thing to do... remove GPU, reseat CPU... etc.

These were my observations when I did these things.

No RAM yes CPU: RAM error light

No RAM or CPU: CPU Error light

Yes CPU and RAM: CPU error light

So yeah... it's kinda weird that this happened from a BIOS update. I'm leaning toward the fact that it is my CPU, as it was not my RAM or PSU (it was tested and voltages are good). What do you all think?

CPU: i7 6700K (OC to 4.5)

CPU cooler: Corsair H100i v2

Motherboard: 1st: ASUS ROG VIII maximus Impact (mini-itx) 2nd: MSI Z270I GAMING PRO CARBON AC

GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 FTW (yes I did the thermal mod)

RAM: Corsair Dominator LPX 2x16Gb (32Gb total) at 2400

HDD: Seagate 3TB 7500 RPM

SSD: 2x OCZ Trion 420 in RAID 0 (OS Drive)

Case: Corsair Obsidian 250D

PSU: Corsair RM650x

PC is about 2 months old BTW.

I would appreciate any help :)

Hi !

Same problem with  similar specs (Maximus VIII ranger Z170 + i7 6700K + DDR4, 3200MHz 16GB 2 x 288 DIMM, Unbuffered, 16-18-18-36, Vengeance LPX Black Heat spreader, 1.35V, XMP 2.0 ....)

PC less than 1 week old :-(

Got a 09 Q-Code error after 3D mark benchmarking

Did you solve your own problem ? And how please ?
