I was trying to install windows 10 from a usb but after putting in my key and stuff i got this popup

"Compatibility report: The computer started using the windows installation media. Remove the installation media and restart your computer so that windows starts normally. Then, insert the installation media and restart the upgrade. (Do not select Icustom [advanced] to perform an upgrade Icustom [advanced] installs a new copy of windows and deletes your programs and settings.) "

I'm not sure what to do here, any help would be great.

thank you

I'm guessing you have Windows 7 or 8 already on your computer. If you want to upgrade then perform an upgrade. If you want to do a clean install then go to advanced, select the operating system drive, and install from there. It will ask you to overwrite your existing data (This means it will delete everything on the OS drive). I will note that upgrading from earlier versions can cause some issues later on due to messy settings left over from the previous OS.

I built a new custom pc and im keeping the old HDD that has windows 10. I took the HDD from my old pc and put it the new and now im trying to install a new oem key of windows 10 via usb. Will doing a custom install wipe everything off my old HDD? because i dont want to lose anything

Yes, custom install will wipe the old drive. Is it possible to just get the existing install of 10 working with the new hardware? If you're worried about licensing issues, you can just re-license it after you get it running.

The best method is to back up your drive and do a clean reinstall.
