Hey everyone!

I'm new here, and haven't built a PC for quite a while. So I'm looking to have a little fun and get back into it with a new build (since my i3 died for no apparent reason). So here is my planned build, if you guys have any recommendations for alternatives that either suit my budget a bit better or are just better value for money, let me know!

Case: BeQuiet! Silent Base 800 (with Window) (£124.99 from Amazon UK)

71DCYaBSPHL._SL1500_.jpg

          - Ok...so my reasoning for this, is that I want, nay...I NEED a silent computer. I've spent years with a computer which is too loud to have in the same room I sleep in, so silence is a must. After seeing the review Hardwarecanucks did on it, I'm convinced this is the best in terms of low noise and beautiful aesthetics.

CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-3470 Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.60 GHz) (Already Purchased)

image.jpg

          - So I already have this CPU, as it's currently in the PC I'm typing this post on (HP Pro), this way I figure I save a few quid in the meantime and a future upgrade may feature an i7 (albeit with another mobo, which will explain my choice of mobo later in the post).

CPU Cooler: Be Quiet BK018 Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler (£56.99 from Amazon UK)

81tDYy7ps5L._SL1500_.jpg

          - This is quite a straightforward choice. I've seen this in a fair few build videos from the likes of LTT and HC, and again...silence.

RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance LP 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model CML16GX3M2A1866C10 (£67.99 from NewEgg)

VENG_LP_K_x2b.png

          - Now this one is a bit of a compromise, since the 3470 is a 1155 socket chip, I'll be going for a fairly mediocre 1155 mobo...most of which only supports DD3. And given the rather large size of the Dark Rock 3, I figured low profile was the way to go. If I were to upgrade in the future to an i7 on an 1155 board, I'd probably go for Corsair LPX dimms instead, since they're DDR4 and still have a low profile to fit with the clearance headaches of the DR3.

MOBO: Struggling to find a low cost Socket 1155 Motherboard right now...so the i5 I currently have may be scuppered...either that or use the board it's on now which is HP OEM.

SSD: Sandisk SSD PLUS 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (£57.99 from Amazon UK)

610-m7loPNL._SL1408_.jpg

         - I only want this for my OS, I already have 8TB in regular hard drives, so for £60, this seems like a no-brainer from a reputable company like Sandisk.

GPU: MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4G OC 4 GB GDDR5 128 bit Memory HDMI/DP/DVI PCI Express 3 Graphics Card - Black (£146.99 from Amazon UK)

81aCRg65viL._SL1500_.jpg

         - For the price point of the 1050's and with 4GB of VRAM, I feel it's really good value for money. And at around £40 cheaper than the EVGA equivalents, the MSI seems even better value.

PSU: Cooler Master - Silent Pro 700W Fully Modular PSU (80PLUS Rated) (Already Purchased)

1-8.jpg

         - Again, this is a piece of kit that I already have and still works great. It's modular, so even if I want new cables for better management, there's always CableMod!

Here is my PCPartPickerUK List: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/3cwX2R

I'm in the UK so all parts need to be able to ship here, my current budget (if my i5 is useful is around £600) if I go to i7 I might go to £8-900. At present I don't need any peripherals and this would be a day to day browser with gaming thrown in, also functioning as my Plex server. (Although if I don't end up use the i5, I plan on leaving it in the HP Pro and using that as the Plex Server in a separate room with the 8TB of hard drive space).

Ok...so there's my build so far. It's a little crappy, but I'm not a hardcore gamer (although I love gaming). So if anyone has any recommendations on what to do for a similar price point on any of the components above, please comment below. And if anyone can see a combo which would give me an i7 with mobo for around £350 all in, I'm all ears!

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to everyone's thoughts on this!

The old gen CPU is just one I have lying around, but the search for a mobo to hold it is proving tough as everything is discontinued. I may stick with the Foxconn board that came with it along with the stock cooler (for the time being) until I figure out what sort of i7 setup I really want. If anyone can put together an i7 system with that case for around £800, I'd definitely look into that.

According to PCPP, the only LGA1155 mobo available from is the MSI H61M--P31G3. Of course you could find one on eBay if your fine going used. Like said above, you dont really need a CPU cooler since you have a locked i5. Everything else looks alright though!

xD I think I'll stick with the Foxconn board for now and jump to i7 in 2 months.

You should spend less money on a case and get a better gpu. I', aware of your cpu/mobo situation and the 700w is ABSOLUTELY overkill for the 1050ti

EDIT:

oh ya now I see that you alrdy have the psu

Yeah the PSU is one I already have. As for the case, I'm incredibly finicky when it comes to PC noise lol

Yeah that might be a plan, any recommendations in the £200 price range for GPU?

Do you guys think it's worth it waiting for Kaby Lake i7's? Seen news reports saying the non-K version 7700 will be around $250...

Thoughts on this? https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/NVIDIA+GeForce/GeForce+GTX+1060/Asus+GeForce®+GTX+1060+TURBO+-+6GB+Graphics+Card+?productId=66615
