so i have just built my new pc with the maximus viii formula. when trying to connect any graphics or sound card the armour casing that covers the supreme fx prevents the cards from going all the way in. when you screw the card in it pushes in to the armour as you can see by the gap in the pictures before screwing the card in. the card has worked fine with no problems while iv tested. what i want to know is how can asus make something and it go out on sale with this design fault? because although the card appears to work fine its very uncomfortable screwing in the cards knowing its pressing in to the casing as you do so.

Is the MOBO screwed correctly?

how do you mean? motherboard screwed in to the case correctly or armour screwed on to the mobo correctly?

This is exactly why your brown box your build. Sit it on cardboard, stick your components into the motherboard to fit test before just jamming it all into your case.

OP, your going to have to modify something. Or buy a cheaper motherboard that doesn't have that stupid ass armor.

Honestly this just dosent seem right, PCI and PCIE card's have standart sizes so they fith every motherboard, the armor should not prevent this.

Motherboard screwed into the case, I think the armor come pre assembled, if so did you messed with it?

nope not messed with anything on the motherboard and from looking through many online pics the armour looks ok as the pics look identical to my mobo. yes its definitely crewed in to the case correctly, the gap created is actually longer than what motherboard crews are so if it werent it would fall out lol. it is definitely fitted correctly. as you can see in the pics it is the part of the card that is tight up against the armour stopping it pushing in fully.

It's more than likely the sound card that's affecting it somehow.  I honestly don't see the point in the Formula in ROGs lineup. It's got armor, a few more leds, and it costs $120 more than the Hero Alpha.

@OP its more than likely something else affecting it. What;s the model number on the sound card?

its the motherboard casing, you can clearly see that from the pictures. and as i said this also happens with all cards gpu or sound

Then it's something you've done. Is the armor screwed down properly into the motherboard stand offs in the case?

If it's affecting both your sound card and gpu, its something on your end. Plenty of people bought that board and have no issues with it.

Find the correct screws in the box, use them to screw down the board into the case. Something since you've installed it has messed it up.

Cuz there's plenty of users on PCPartpicker who've bought the same board and had no issues with its PCIE slots.

it isnt affecting the cards i clearly said they appear to work fine its just uncomfortable pressing in to the shroud. nothing on my end.

Then deal with the uncomfortable feeling. It's armor, it's taking up space that a PCIE card might have used whether it's intentional or not.

It's exactly why I didn't buy that board. Buy a Hero Alpha, add in a VRM waterblock, few more leds, and armor, and youve got the Formula board.

You bought it because you liked it, this is it's drawback. Plus in all honesty, how often are you going to change PCIE stuff? Once every few years? It's something you deal with or you don't want to deal with, if it's the latter, pack the board back up and return it.

if you learned to read the post correctly the first time then there wouldnt be the need to be passive aggressive. the hero has horrible red accents everywhere, i wanted a completely black stealthy mobo and this fits the bill better than any other on the market for the price, also built in wifi is a big must for me and a concealed m.2 slot. point me to a mobo that has all them and ill agree with you, otherwise dont judge till you know everything. this mobo fits the bill for me to the tee, hence why i am so reluctant to change it
