X99 or Z170?

Hi guys, I'm looking for building my first system, but I'm really struggling with whether to get the x99 or z170, and I do know that there is no future proofing when coming to pc parts, but I want to know which one of these chipsets will last longer as in supported by the future CPUs, and please don't factor in the price, because where I pretend to buy the parts from they are priced identically: Asus x99 deluxe + 5820k and Asus z170 deluxe + 6700k.

  Which one would you go with? And why?

To be honest, no socket is truly future-proof so you can't really rely on that. X99 is older so I would assume it will rotate out before Z170. Also, it depends entirely on what you are doing. Look at the processors first then decide the motherboard that will support that processor.

If they are exactly the same price then get the X99 setup.

You can't say that if you don't know what he's doing, for example, the z170 setup will be better with gaming than that x99 setup.

It depends on what you do for which one wins out. I prefer the Z170 platform but the x99 is usually more so you might be better off with that at the same price point. Also see:
