Laptop Battery Issue

Go to solution Solved by arrowman1256,

Alright, I appreciate the help :)

I recently took apart my laptop to replace the cooling fan after not having used it for 2 years. After getting everything up and running and having it plugged in for 8 hours, it's still at 0% charge. How do I tell whether it is the battery that is bad, or that I reinstalled hardware incorrectly and that it just isn't connected. It is an HP Pavilion Dv6t Quad edition, I can give more info if needed or pictures if needed, any help is appreciated, thanks!

There's a very important detail you left out here - does the computer only say 0%, or does it die within minutes of being unplugged?

Try re-seating the battery, and if that doesn't work, check your connections.

Thy hath sinneth, and in thy life thou hast fallen to an unholy, unspeakable level of humanity. Thou hast given into your basest needs. And suffered many years under thine Satan-box. However, if thine be willing, as thy hast show yourself to be, thy can ascendeth into thy glorious fold of the glorious church. Go well, my brother, may your temps be low and your frames high. ~ MrDynamicMan

I am unsure of whether or not it will die immediately,  I will test it and get back with you as soon as I finish installing w10. Also are there any connections I should look for in particular?  The way it looked to me the charging port was connected to the mobo and then there is a pin connecter the battery seats into on the mobo.

So the answer to the first reply is that it is actually at 0% as soon as it is unplugged it shuts off.

Like allready mentioned by others, check if the battery is seated in correctly and if everything is connected properly to/from the battery.

You can also try this:

http://www.helpwithwindows.com/Windows7/Check-your-laptop-battery-health-in-Windows-7.html

or just use AIDA64 to read out the battery. AIda64 offers a trial and will tell you everything from max to min MAH Capacity aswell as the health of the battery and more

However I would assume that most likely the battery is just dead, if you did not use it for 2years, thats not unlikely.

Especially if the device has been stored in a warm/hot area. Lithium batterys are best stored at 50%~ capacity and in a cold-ish area.

@Nord or quote me if you want me to reply back. I don't necessarily check back or subscribe to every topic.

Here is the info from the AIDA64 software, my assumption is that you are correct in saying that it is connected but just wont hold a charge?

Looks like the battery is dead.

There is a slight chance that the AC-Adapter is the problem. Try charging the laptop for like 10~ min w/o having it turned on. If the battery charges, its most likely the AC-Adapter, if it still does not charge its the battery... or some other, internal defect, but thats impossible to tell over the internet.
