Disable YouTube HTML5 player

Go to solution Solved by peterhejlejensen,

Just download Youtube Center and go to Settings (The gear icon in the upper right corner of the screen) > Player > Player type > Flash. YT Center is definitely a must-have. http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/114002

Once in a while YouTube decides to use their HTML5 player instead of the normal flash. This happens randomly when im watching 10+ videos with flash and then the next one is HTML5. Even the same video I watched a minute ago is now HTML5 player instead of Flash. Also, only 2/3 of the videos are using the HTML5. I'm using Chrome Version 30.0.1599.66 m and Flash 11,8,800,170.

Normally when this happens I go to the bottom of the Youtube page and press the link "Try something new!". This takes me to their page for joining the test of the HTML5 player. To fix the problem I first join the test, and then leave it. This forces Youtube to go back to using the Flash player.

However, this doesn't work for me anymore. Anyone with a tip how I can disable the HTML5 player and force Youtube to use Adobe Flash?

The HTML5 player annoys me as the settings are bugged and doesn't scale correcly (I use 150% zoom on youtube. I got a 24" screen and the "white boxes" makes me no good. When will Youtube fix a auto fit video to screen?). Also feel that HTML5 is less smooth, and easier gets frame drops.

Edit: I run windows 7 ultimate 64 bit

Thanks, this solves the problem, whenever I get to a HTML5 video it switches to the flash version after a 1/10 of a second.

I'm not really happy to have an external plugin to run Youtube, but it's working fine. And there are some good settings in Youtube Center.

I'm with you 100% on this... lately I've noticed that videos continually have to buffer through out the video. whenever this happen Its clear that its the html5 version of the youtube player, right clicking shows this to be correct. After reverting to the flash version the video plays back flawlessly.

If you're using Chrome on OSX:
go to the Application folder
right click on "Google Chrome"
click on "Show Package Contents"
then navigate to Contents/Versions/{version-number}/Google Chrome Framework.framework/Libraries
then rename or delete the .so file that contains ffmpeg in the name
Restart Chrome

If your using Chrome on Windows:
navigate to Program Files/Google/Chrome/Application/{version-number}/
and rename or delete ffmpegsumo.dll
Restart Chrome

After completing the above if you right click on a youtube video you'll see that it uses the flash player version.

The only issue with the above is that whenever chrome has an update the ffmpeg file will be restored, so you'll need to repeat the above steps.

Those problems you have with the HTML5 player sound very weird, mine works perfectly, like if the video was on my HDD pretty much. I never have issues...
