quick question about custom gpu waterblock and it's backplate

so i have all my watercooling parts except the block and the backplate.

i can order the ''EK-FC1080 GTX G1 – Nickel'' waterblock right now for my gtx 1070 G1 but the backplates are not available yet.

can i build my watercooling loop and add the backplate later on? or do you need to add the waterblock and the backplate at the same time?

i ask this because i asume the building process is different between having a backplate on it and no backplate.

thx in advance,

The backplate is optional. They can be installed alongside the block or after, both work fine. Only issue is dismantling the loop to get the card out for the backplate install.

so i can't just remove the 5/6 screws that are needed for the backplate?

When it comes to installing the backplate, yes. I wouldn't do it before hand, though.

so to be clear, i can just install everything and when the backplate comes in just the remove the 5/6 screws that need to be lined up with the backplate and mount it on?

i would think removing the 5/6 screws won't make the block coming of the card since theres 4 main screws around the gpu chip.

Yes.

Technically, yes, the screws wouldn't make the cooler come off. However, having all the screws ensures firm and even contact on other important parts like the VRM, as well as providing the card with good structural rigidity. Saving a couple of minutes when it comes to installing the backplate is not worth leaving the cooler mounted incorrectly.

@Oshino Shinobu

found a picture of what screws would stay on when adding the backplate, (the screws with the red circle would stay on to keep the block from falling of the card) (screws with the arrows would need to be removed for the backplate)

your opinion?

Install the block as per the instructions. Don't remove any screws it doesn't say to remove. When it comes to install the backplate, follow the instructions. There is literally no real reason to remove the screws for the backplate before you're going to install it.
