The A to me points more to the change in the stand.  The X34A uses an updated stand that supports swivel.  The same stand they showed off for then new X34P at Computex this year.  I doubt there's anything unique to the firmware/panel internals for the X34A than the X34.  That wouldn't make any sense to make a new external facing model name for internal only changes.
