Computer won't sleep/shutdown, sometimes :|

Hey guys,

Having a problem with my pc, sometimes when i want it to go to sleep or shutdown it won't. The display will turn off and my keyboard and mouse. But the computer itself remains on.

The weird thing is this does not happen all the time, so it is very difficult to troubleshoot by shutting down drivers one by one in device manager.

I think some software is preventing it from going to sleep/shutdown, but i can't figure out what. Do some of you have experience with this problem and can you point me in the right  direction that

fixed the problem for you?

Bart

Tip number one with sleep problems: is your mobo bios updated? If no, do it.

Your computer is going to sleep, but it's entering S1 'fast resume' sleep, not S3 'deep sleep' sleep.

You might need to go into your motherboard settings and enable S3 sleep, or set sleep mode to Auto. Make sure ACPI drivers are installed for your motherboard.

It's completely blown out of proportion. Also if you're the least bit worried about data gathering then you should go live in a cave a 1000Km from the nearest establishment simply because every device and every entity gathers information these days. In the current era privacy is just fallacy and nothing more.

Thanks for the replies!!

the mobo is up to date as far as i can tell. The weird part is that this is a recent development and i did not have this problem in the beginning, and it does not occur all the time. For example when i just booted i can put it to sleep no problem. Only after working with the computer for a while is when problems occur. So my guess is in the meantime some driver or program has started that prevents the computer from going to sleep.
