Hello,

So i'm in a situation where my motherboard has died, and whilst this has happenned my curiosity has peaked, since I have to replace my motherboard, would it be worth choosing one of these two options:

1. Upgrade my CPU whilst rebuying the same motherboard from 4690k to 4790k as i'm doing some video recording and streaming more often as a current hobby. (Z97)

2. Upgrade to the next generation 6700k and a new motherboard, this also means I would have to buy new RAM sticks though so my 16GB DDR3 would kind of be sidelined

I'm very tempted to go with option 2, but it'd be cheaper using option 1, especially if the difference between a 4790k and 6700k is not substantial.

I really want opinions on this, i've seen mostly 6700k only winning around 5-10% on most benchmarks, and in some cases, the 4790k is stronger for gaming core-per-core.

Warranty has expired on it unfortunately

z97 came out in may 24 2014

assuming you bought it day one that still leaves you with almost a year (all mobo manufacturers I know of have a 3 year warranty)

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

I was led to believe it was 2 years, I will check out the RMA process to see how it goes, thank you! - I'll respond back when I can

Make sure to leave your experience in the thread linked in my signature (and if its asrock I apologize in advance)

Nvm I missed where you said youre upgrading the cpu either way. Id go for the 6700k then

CPU: I5 4590 Motherboard: ASROCK H97 Pro4 Ram: XPG 16gb v2.0 4x4 kit  GPU: Gigabyte GTX 970 PSU: EVGA 550w Supernova G2 Storage: 128 gb Sandisk SSD + 525gb Mx300 SSD Cooling: Be Quiet! Shadow Rock LP Case: Zalman T2 Sound: Logitech Z506 5.1 Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma Keyboard: DBPower LED

I would suggest RMA if possible.

But if you ever wanna upgrade, look at the price of the 4790K. Then, compare it to the 6700K+new mobo+ new ram. If you're editing a lot, the new platform might help a bit but upgrading to a i7 does help.

If you're only doing gaming, keep you good pal i5. :)

Alright, they do not cover the transport cost of the motherboard, and the cost to ship it to them, isn't far off the cost of a new motherboard....So I may as well choose the upgrade, somewhat sucks.

Edit: Would also take a lot longer than getting a new one
