Do you really need an optical drive? What is this build going to be used for? 16GB of RAM is what I'd consider to be 'too much' for a $1000 AUD build. Could go for this and wait for the RX 480. We don't know pricing yet but I'm sure $350 would be sufficient:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-6500 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($275.00 @ Centre Com)

One way or the other, I'd recommend waiting and saving during this time until we have some benchmarks on the 480.

Nice to see another Australian on the forums.

For only $20 you could upgrade that 6500 to a 6600, or another $20 on top of that for an unlocked 6600K.

Do you require a Wi-Fi adapter? Are you not using Ethernet?

For an extra $20 you could touble that 1TB to 2TB.

That motherboard only has 1 PCI-E x16 slot, this may hurt future upgrading.

Also, what are you going to do in the way of OS? That will cost a bit extra unless you do it illegally or go Linux.

Yeah, the RX 480 is going to be awesome (coming from a NVIDIA fan boy, that carries some weight). And depending on the workload, 16GB may be necessary.

Would be better to go with 8gb instead of 16gb, and use the money for the gpu.

For now, I'm assuming he's going down the 'gaming' pathway. Waiting for OP's response currently.

The RX 480 is AMD.

MSI doesn't make GPUs, they make Graphics Cards.

You won't need 16GB RAM, 8 will be enough.

If going for that specific motherboard (I think you should get another one). I think you should go for a single 8GB RAM stick so that you can upgrade in the future.

Should be fine with 8GB of RAM. If it's not enough, you always have the option to put in another stick.

I have that adapter in a HTPC.  The run is only about 4-5m and no walls but I get the full speed of my modem (80-100Mb/s down).
