I need to install Ubuntu for college reasons, and I'd like to setup a dual boot machine. My current PC uses a SSD for Windows/Drivers/Programs and a HDD for Media/Less used programs. Can I partition my HDD and install Ubuntu on it? Will it interfere in anyway with Windows? Can I get it to dual-boot or will I need to choose the boot drive in BIOS everytime I want to switch OSes?

When I did it, Ubuntu automatically recognized that I had another OS, and prompted me on each boot to select Ubuntu or Windows.

I installed to the same drive (but different partitions)

It should still work on different drives though.

ubuntu does allow you to install it alongside windows, without making separate partitions. just make a bootstick and select install alongside windows bootmanager.
