Card reader problems with new SD cards

I've been googleing for answers about this problem I'm having with new SD and micro SD cards that I'm having trouble reading with my laptop and my PC (via a sandisk all in one reader) Turns out that it has problem reading new cards ( or at least relativelly new (bought last year) compared (I just have 1 old micro sd card, mostly I use CF) to an old micro SD card I tried it with. This old micro SD card came with an old cell phone I had (about 4 years ago) and this card works fine (at least on the all in one reader, didn't try it on my laptop) while these new ones are giving me some trouble. Maybe its the size? or the fast transfer rate?

could be the newer standards if card reader is old. SDXC SDHC etc. same as older phones will be happy with SD card but SDHC will confuse it.

 

haven't tested this, but i don't think they're fully backwards compatible...
