Hey guys, I need some suggestions for a headset. Will be use mainly as game audio and chat, as well as music and movies. Price point is around $200-$250. I've already looked at cans like the Astro A40's Steelseries 7H's, and as a wireless area, the Ear Force PX5's and Corsair vengeance 2000's. if you have personal experience please feel free to share likes/dislikes, and recommend what you like and/or use.

Thank you guys for your time! If you need anything else let me know.

Are you set on a headset (i.e audio & recording in one unit) or would you be open to the idea of headphones and a clip on mic / desktop mircophone? Headsets normally have to compromise between audio quality, are made cheaply (this is a broad generalisation, but stays true for most of the headsets), and cost alot more than a headphone and mic for similar quality. For $250 you can get a very good set of headphones and a decent desktop microphone; These are very good, especially for the price . There are many, many others and that is just a taster for what else is out there. I currently have the lower budget Creative Aurvana Live! headphones and am loving them, compared to my previous Siberia's, the build quality and the sound is also very good. In terms of a decent microphone; Blue Yeti is a well regarded desk microphone offering a high quality recording.

If you want to use a headset, the SteelSeries 7H is very good; although i do know someone who has had 3 break on him, Linus does talk very highly of his 7H, so i wouldn't look too much into it. I've also heard good things regarding this Headset, but I haven't had any first hand experience with it. Although, again, i would reiterate that you could get better quality for the same price you pay considering what you're buying.

That is just a small selection of what is available, if you have a decent sound card, it opens you up to a much larger array of units to take advantage of; however it isn't necessary.

I use the 7Hs on a day-to-day basis. I love them. Good sound, great simulated surround in games and they feel very comfortable. I typically wear them for several hours when gaming/music listening and have yet to experience any discomfort.

The price point currently is about half of your budget or less. If you pick a set up, you'd still have plenty leftover to get a good standalone soundcard as well.

Coming off of what Dave said, it isn't very dificult to simply buy an attachable mic. For the grand price of 12 cents, you can buy this cheap pack of lav mics. It comes in sets of 3, and I've yet to have one break on me. They sound just as good as any headset I've tried, as well. If you'd rather not have something attach to your clothing, then there's always this, but you'll need to boost the microphone gain on it because I've found it to be a little bit on the weak side. If you really want the best quality, a Blue Microphone would be a good choice.

As far as headphones go, I'm using and loving the ATH-M50s. The standard ATH-M50 has an annoying coil cable, so I'd go for the s version if you decide on them.
