I have Comcast, i live in Illinois so there isn't many options. I have 90 down 15 up. At this time Comcast have come to my house 12 times either replacing the modem or re wiring the coax input. My internet will be perfectly fine with no lag then all of the sudden its down. They thought it was the coax line in so they put a booster. No fix. They dug a hole under my lawn and my pond to run a coax line through the side of the house and directly into the modem/router combo. No fix. I drive to their location and ask for just a modem only and they delivered, so i went to best buy and bought the asus rt ac3100 for $250. No fix (just an amazing router). The internet will crash even when something very minor happens (like walking into my house and my phone connecting to the WiFi and crashing the internet.) or something major (live-streaming, gaming.) At times it will go down with nothing happening. The TV's throughout the house stay live so im not sure if its the Comcast box outside or what. pls halp.

A power cycle is where you unplug the cable modem for a full minute, and then plug it back in, and any LAN connected devices to said modem have to also be powered down during the aforementioned unplugged time (just unplug anything connected from both the wall and the ethernet jacks) and after the minute plug the modem back in, and wait for it to finish booting all the way up, once that is done you can reattach any other devices like a router, printer, or network storage device. An extended power cycle is just 5 minutes instead of 1.

I should also note that most of the newer cable modems that xfinity uses uses a weird IP address for local networks namely the 10.0.0.x batch instead of the regular 192.168.x.x, so the router will fix that issue

I've done both power cycling. no fix. also, the router fixed the ipv4's so there all 192.168.x.x

When the internet does go out, have you tried connecting directly to the cable modem? Im not sure if yours is a modem and router combo or not, but i would like to rule the standalone router out as being a possible culprit

They have replaced that modem around 6 times, both with a router/modem and just a modem, no fix. if i connect a pc to the modem alone there is still no connection

Then you have a choice, either switch to another ISP or see if Comcast can do a refresh signal, which if the internet does go down again and the refresh signal doesn't work than it indicates either the outside box where the filters go needs to be fixed/replaced, or (and i have seen this happen before) your not getting what you are paying for, at which point you will need to go to your local store and have them check your account settings to see what they are billing you for, and finally if you want to keep with Comcast id recommend buying a cable modem from somewhere like best buy or something, it will save you a $10 charge per month for renting one of their boxes

We used to have att, but it was slow (20 d 2 up). I am convinced it is the box outside. we are paying for 50 down 10 up but with all of or troubles they are giving us 90 for the price of 50 plus tv so we are paying right. can you link a cable modem? (more budget orientated)
