Not just from doing that. FreeNAS can be used to access files from outside the network, but it requires FTP/SSH being set up, with the relevant ports being forwarded.

EDIT: The DNS part of that guide is not essential. It just makes it so you don't have to remember your IP. If you're just using a select couple of PCs to access the files from outside the network, you can set a local DNS table to translate the domain name to IP.
