How to connect a display to a motherboard having lvds display output only !

Hello there I need a help.....!!

i had a lenovo B310 All in one lying around my house, it has a broken screen and a h55 express chipset with a core i3 550 processor. i had a plan of converting this pc to a media center for my home.  Since the only WAY TO CONNECT A DISPLAY to the motherboard is using an lvds connector.! I had a thought of connecting the motherboard to my screen using the lvds to vga conversion cable, is it okay to experiment,?? Are there any chances of damaging the motherboard !! pls help !!
