Laptop upgrading ram

Go to solution Solved by pwn_intended,

Another question, do you void warranty if you upgrade ram ? Or do all manufacturers allow you to upgrade ram and storage without voiding warranty

I think with most that you technically void the warranty, but they generally have no way of knowing that you did it. So if you ever need to send it back, just put the original ram back in.

I want to buy a laptop, but i noticed that laptops with 8gb of ram cost way more. Example i3 laptop with 4gb of ram is 60-70€ cheaper than the laptop with 8gb and all other specs the same. i can get 8gb SO-DIMM stick for 35€. So will the to differente rams work together or is is just like on desktop they might but doesnt mean they will.

Depends on how many slots you have on the board

Usually mismatched sticks of ram should work. however, a "4GB laptop" may actually come with 2 2gb sticks instread of just a single 4gb stick.

Also, depending on the specific laptop you have in mind, the ram may not be upgradable because it is soldered directly onto the mobo.

When in doubt, re-format.
