Im just installing drivers on my new laptop and the cpu seems to be running at 61 degrees celcius. What can I do to cool it down? Apply new thermal paste?

What surface is it on? sometimes the rubber feet can wear down and bring the laptop closer to the surface it is on which heats it up more.

Right now its on my wooden desk.

Like the guy said before, laptops run hot. its normal. invest in a good cooling pad for it if you are really worried. or if you dont want to spend that much money then buy rubber feet for it and stick them on the bottom of the laptop to lift it off the surface more

"Did you clean it out? There can be a crap ton of dust in there. Also, get a laptop cooling pad, you can get some really cheap and quiet pads online. I have one and it helps a lot. "
Even new laptops can contain a significant amount of dust. Even if they are factory new.

Alltrough, I assume it is a gaming laptop and it may can be running as hot as you discribed.

First of all, you should search for some reviews for the exact model of your device and control the given values.

If your values are much higher than the given ones, then try to contact your supplyer (if it's a new device).

After all, a deep cleaning and applying a new thermal paste should help by older models. (dont forget the GPU! (&cooling pads eventually))

I hope it helped :)
