Hello everyone!

I was looking to upgrade my laptop CPU. Right now, I have a Dell XPS 13 with an i5 5200U (2 cores, 4 threads - clock speed = 2.50GHz, turbo 2.7GHz, socket type FCBGA1168. It also has 8GB of SODIMM DDR3). I read somewhere that the CPU was soldered into the motherboard, and in other places I read that it wasn't, just the GPU was soldered.

I was looking to get an i7 because I manage a YouTube channel for a friend and I want to edit on the go, not just at my desk.

Would the upgrade be possible?

Also, would it be possible to upgrade the RAM to 16GB? (Sorry I'm a noob at all this computer stuff!)

Thanks!

Ethan

It's soldered on. That's what FCBGA (Flip Chip Ball Grid Array) stands for.

On the RAM front, are you sure it has SO-DIMM? Everywhere I looked, it seemed to be soldered on. Even on pictures of the motherboard (step 15). In case I'm wrong, to retain your warranty and avoid issues with stability, browse through compatibility lists to find a suitable stick/kit.

Kingston

Corsair

G.Skill

Crucial

Just, FYI, they guarantee compatibility with the laptop, not necessarily with the factory-installed RAM. Like always, you should swap the entire kit, if you go there.
