Double wire sleeving help.

Go to solution Solved by alpenwasser,

I was wondering if it's possible to remove one of the 6+2 pins and convert it into a single one?

Just to make sure I understand correctly:

You have this:

PSU-------------6+2pin---6+2pin
and would like to remove the second 6+2pin to make it look like this:

PSU-------------6+2pin
?

As long as you still have the right pinouts on all the plugs (correct voltage wire connected

to the correct pins) there shouldn't be any problems with that. Just make sure you don't exceed

the maximum current load for the individual pins in the plugs and you should be fine.

EDIT:

According to Molex, a Mini-Fit Jr. pin can carry up to 9 A, so you should be fine.

Hello everyone, I'm considering sleeving my AX860 PSU and have already run into some problems before even buying the sleeving.

My PSU seems to have lots of double wires, making it tricky but not impossible. My problem is that I only have two single 6+2 pin PICe cables, so I can only connect one graphics card through those. The other PCIe cables are double 6+2 pin cables, which look horrible when plugged because of the extra cable loop between them. I was wondering if it's possible to remove one of the 6+2 pins and convert it into a single one? Or is that too dangerous and just a stupid idea?

- I know you can buy Corsair's own sleeved set, but I think that the white ones just look like white cables rather than being sleeved. It's also cheaper to just do it with paracord.

Yeah, I pretty much just want to remove the second 6+2. I've checked where the cables go into the PSU end and six of them are connected to one of the 6 pins and the other two are connected to a 2 pin. The other two pin and six pin just branch off from the first connectors.

Yeah I think that should work. As long as you still have the correct voltages at the pins

(which shouldn't be a problem if you just remove one 6+2p) you should be fine.

Decided to trust you and went for it. Just cut off the unwanted cables and insulated them with some electric tape for safe measure, then switched my GPU over to the cut cables and it seems to work fine. Did a few quick tests and everything seems to be normal, including heat output, so it looks like it's not drawing more power suddenly.

Now to wait until I get paid to order all of my sleeving supplies and start working.

Thanks Alpen.
