Is LGA 1156 still worth investing in?

Go to solution Solved by Mew,

is a six year old socket still worth investing in for a new build? or is using LGA 1150 better?

No. I upgraded from the i5 750 to the 4690k. It was a pretty noticeable difference considering that my 750 was running at 4ghz 1 core, 3.5ghz 4 cores.

Sandy? Sure - it's still viable :)

Lynnfield.

what about the first-generation core i7s? like the 875k or 920?

1156 only supported 6xx, 7xx, and 8xx cpus. The i7s on 1156 were all 8xx. 9xx cpus were only avaialbe on 1366.

Sandy is 1155.

1156 is the generation before that and I would say it is worth upgrading from the 1156 platform to a newer socket and not invest more in that old platform
