New GPU setup for PG348Q?

Go to solution Solved by Guest,

I was more talking about the 4790k coupled with the 970 on my current 1080p display, I know I'm going to need it for my upgrade.

alright, just if you have plans on maxing Witcher 3 with 4k (which correct me if I'm wrong I did see that correctly) It wont happen

I personally would sell my 970 and go for a 980Ti, especially if you want to move up to 4k, The VRAM gate will start to show

If you want a general idea of what FPS you'd look like, definately try to get some cash out of the 970 and upgrade to a 980Ti, and eventually dual 980Ti's.

First forum post here, advice on my conventional tech outlet is cancerous and unreliable.

So I plan on getting ASUS's PG348Q monitor when it releases, the only problem is I'm currently running a 4790k with a strix 970 (overkill CPU, I know), the latter of which is obviously not exactly ideal for ultra settings on a 3440x1440 display. Obviously an upgrade is in order, but as I have little experience with anything above your run-of-the-mill 1080p 60hz monitor, I figured that I'd seek advice first.

I want a graphics solution that can run max settings on games like TW3 (some leeway with things like hairworks) on a 3440x1440 display that can take good advantage of the 100hz refresh rate (achieving preferrably around 80 frames per second), and Nvidia is a must because of the monitor's G-Sync. Would simply getting an additional 970 (2-way SLI) be effective enough? Or do I want to look at something like a dual 980 setup or a 980 ti? Future-proofing is important, but if I can get away with spending $300 on another 970, that's fine by me.

EDIT: More info on the upcoming monitor for those who are unaware:

stepping in here

the 4790k is far from overkill xD 5930k is overkill then 5960x. Witcher 3 will be hard to get 4k 60 fps alone

Also, it would be easy if I was strictly getting a 4k display (plenty of benchamrks out there), but this is an ultrawide 1440p monitor, which has a significantly lower number of pixels (~8.9m vs ~5m, respectively).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't UWQHD generally see significantly higher framerates than on 4k with the same hardware?

I do see your point with the 970's vram being a drawback though.

Alright, going with a 980ti seems like a good option. Can I expect to be overclocking my 4790k to any significant degree?
