my alienware m11x that i recieved for simply fixing it has finally been declared dead. After years of service, its ssd started getting corrupted, one of the sticks of ram went bad, the screen cable is worn to the point of being extremely finicky, the power button stopped working (was turning it on by shorting out some pins with a screwdriver) and now it stopped taking a charge alltogether.

What im looking for in a new laptop:
Beefy cpu,
8-16gb ram
decent gpu (roughly 860m or better)  -just enough  too get the job done, i dont plan on gaming on this much, i have a good desktop

portable, i like 14-15 inch laptops, but not a 14.6 that they cram a number pad on, it feels to cramped. I really like the layout of the new alienware15 (allthough not an alienware fan)

fine with rerfurbished

led backlit keyboard

Any ideas?

Budget? I would say go with a P35Wv2/3 or an MSI GS60 Ghost in whatever GPU flavour you like. However, the GS60 is a fingerprint magnet, and the p35W is a jet engine.

Most gaming laptops in that range have a quad-core, hyperthreaded monster of a mobile CPU in between 2.4 and 2.6GHz. they're all basically the same.

i knew i forgot to mention something, around $1k budget (i can get 35% off dell refurbished so that may make me end up with an alienware refurb again)

can it be big and bulky? or do you want rather have a slim laptop

it can be a thick laptop, just not going with somehting like a 18 inch laptop though

go for ASUS G551JM 15.6

the alienware ones are with a 960m in as far as i know but yeah go for it if you put your trust in the brand and get that refurb

its straight from dell. certified refurb

and yeah that looks like a nice laptop for the price,

the alienware 15 comes with anything from a 960 to 980 and 1080p or 4k screen, but i am at the mercy of a waiting game for one to be refurbed that i like
