I run an eyefinity monitor set up with these specs:

i7 980X

12GB DDR3 Dominator

Asus Sabertooth x58

x2 GTX 580's

120GB Intel SSD

They run fine and I can play all my games fine but I run into frame drops a fair bit, I have both the 580's on the sabertooth x16 slots. the top card really doesn't have much room to breath but if that was really an issue motherboard manufacturers wouldn't put pcie slots so close together.

As I said I can run games but I do receive some really bad frame drops. (I am not running games in eyefinity), for example SimCity that seems simple game I see people streaming, recording and playing it fine with no frame issues at all.

Do I need to invest in a new motherboard so the cards can breath?

i wouldnt. the only thing i would get is maybe a custom loop for wc. thats a great cpu and with wc you can really bring out its potential

You shouldn't have too, what temperatures are your GPU's hitting?

CPU: Intel Core i5 2550K @ 4GHz | Cooler: Gelid Tranquillo Rev. 2 | Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3

GPU: XFX 1GB HD6850 OC'd | SSD: OCZ Agility 3 60GB | HDD: Samsung 500GB | PSU: Corsair HX520W | Case: Zalman Z11+

Stick with the motherboard you have. If the card is overheating, just get one of those aftermarket GPU coolers.

CPU: AMD 3950x Mobo: MSI B550 RAM: 32GB DDR4 GPU: Asus 3080 Strix PSU: Superflower Leadex 3 720w Case: BeQuiet 500DX

Storage: 2TB SSD + 4TB HDD Audio: SMSL 793ii -> HiFiman HE-400 + Mission MS-50 Speakers

I'm thinking that your cards are hitting their thermal thresholds, so then they're decreasing performance to maintain a safer temperature, hence the sudden frame drops. Do you know roughly what temps your cards are hitting while gaming for an hour or two? Also, how well is your case ventilated?

Around 70ish, My ventilation is not the best as my only 2 intakes are infront of my hard drive cadges which are full, I have a 200mm Out take at the top of my case and my rear out take which is going through my H80.

If wondering I am using an Antec 902, I am planning on getting a new chassis anyway, I have a 600T in mind.

Well I have just looked at the thermal thresehold of the GTX580 and apparently it is around 97c. How many monitors do you run?

I run 3, I only use one while gaming

Hmmmm... I was thinking whether your cards are running out of vRAM. How much memory does your cards have?

1.5GB per card

Okay so you only have 1.5GB of vRAM in total, personally I don't see that becoming an issue, are your monitors 1080p ones? The GTX580 is a good card and with you running them in SLI, I can't see any problems with your cards not being able to keep up.

Same here mate! What settings do you run your games at, max settings? What is your CPU temperature too?

My cpu idles in the 30's and stays in the 30's even when playing games, my h80 is always on mid settings. I never max out games i usually lower the graphics for higher frames as graphics don't bother me.

Hmmmm... I was thinking whether you maxed out your graphics, that at times it peaks the 1.5GB vRAM, hence the frame drops. I'm actually stumped for answers mate.

Unless anyone else on here could have any solutions I'm stumped. What about the storage you play games on? Do you run an SSD for games, or a HDD? I'm possibly thinking that the storage can't load the files quick enough. Though I personally don't think this is the problem.

The only other reason I can think is that one of your cards are faulty. Is their another GPU you can temporarily try at all?

I run my game off an SSD, and my normal hard drives are WD black so even if i was using my hdd there shouldn't be a problem as they are 7200rpm
