(4k res) Gaming PC help

Go to solution Solved by brob,

All parts sourced at geizhals.eu. No idea about shipping etc.

Did not include hdd. Add sufficient for needs.

The Samsung SM951 4 lane M.2 ssd will provide excellent performance for a system drive (up to 4 times faster than SATA III). It is, IMO, worth the premium cost.

So I'm planning to buy a new PC. I would like to be able to run 4k as well with it, the main reason i'm upgrading and want faster CPU and all the good new stuff.

Budget location: up to 2000-2300 euro, location 'Belgium' but since high prices will go abroad Netherlands/Germany most likely for purchase or some webshop that delivers anywhere maybe

Aim: 4k res gaming      and some other things i prefer:

4.0+ i7 Intel processor (i like the i7 series ever since i bought it almost 5-6 years ago so 4790k or the skylake one)

32gb of RAM (since i reach 16gb regularly on my current PC)

Nvidea graphics 980ti min (benchmarks seem so good or a titan but thats a 300-400euro question for me i think?)

Monitors: Will be 2 4k monitors and 1 hd monitor (it changes to eventually 3 4k monitors over time)

Peripherals: None, this is PC only.

Why upgrade: running 680gtx which cant handle 4k for gaming, cpu is an i5 3.4, 16gb memory which i reach a couple times a week (improper use of webbrowser but i rather pay a couple hundred more to double it then change my usage  :P) SSD also to small.

Instead of upgrading current PC it will remain as is and be used by family member.

General info question: what's up with the PCI SSD drives? I saw Linus his vid about it being to pricey at the time he made it but what about now?

I personally think that 4k is overkill for gaming at this stage. It will be the new standart in the feature but for now it is hard to deal with, single GPU is not ok most of the times on 4K gaming Ultra. What i recommend is you better go get ( 1440p, G-syng, 144hz, IPS )
- Acer XB270HU
- ASUS MG MG279Q

If you go 1440p you will max every game on ultra with single GPU.

CPU: Intel i7-5820k
CPU Cooler: Kraken X61
Mobo: MSI X99A SLI Plus
RAM: G.Skill RipJaws 4 schwarz DIMM Kit 32GB, DDR4-2800
GPU:  Evga 980ti Hybrid // Zotac 980ti AMP! Extreme
Case: NZXT H440
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB
HDD: WD BLUE 1TB
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA G2 750W
-----------------------------------------------------------
Over Geizhals.eu

CPU: 400€
CPU Cooler: 160€
Mobo: 220€
RAM: 250€
GPU:  Evga 850€  // Zotac 770€
Case: 120€
SSD: 180€
HDD: 60€
PSU: 115€

400 + 160 + 200 + 250 + 850 + 120 + 180 + 60 + 115 = 2335€  ( With Evga GPU )
400 + 160 + 200 + 250 + 770 + 120 + 180 + 60 + 115 = 2255€ ( With Zotac GPU )

The reason i choose 5820k is becuase you put 2000-2300 budjed and i wanted to go with best i can also the Skylake is almost the 5820k price. If you want to lower the price you can change few things:

CPU: 5820k to 4790k

Ram: 32GB DDR4 to 32GB DDR3

Mobo: MSI X99A SLI Plus to MSI Z97 Gaming 5

SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB to 250GB

Thanks a lot. I'm just trying to figure out that website now, it's not giving any place to buy the parts :S

Kinda surprised 16gb sticks are that cheap, thought they would be more pricey. Would give me the option to upgrade it later which is nice.

Think i'll probably mainly go for that build Brob suggested if i find the place to buy it. Prob will change case but that's more personal i think, and if i got the Gigabyte G1 gaming 980ti option then yea, i really like their triple fan setup look. Performance wise their pretty equal, i think the Gigabyte is oc a bit more even.

Oh about the storage, might even go 512gb but i noticed i do have to watch out with picking right? I seem to notice their are some SSD out there using that m.2 connection but not using the bandwidth of it, only having 500mb speed while the one you linked it almost 2gb read and 1gb write.

Question: Should i watch out for anything else besides Read/Write speeds? Like the IOPS which i still dont understand what the number means besides more is better.

Is it that loud? My prev PC I had a 4870x2 which was pretty loud but I am using headsets so I dont really notice any noise usually, atm im running 680gtx, i think MSI (not at home so cant check)

*edit just found some sound tests on youtube, ye it seems to be pretty bad especially when reaching 100% fan speed. In case the shop doesnt have the EVGA brand, what brands are similar?

Ill try to find a shop for it. Like I said the website isnt giving my any places. Also buying it abroad since the price diff is pretty big.

Also if anyone knows a shop in the Netherlands or Germany around the Belgium border area pls let me know. (Even if its a bit further it's still fine, 200-250km drive prob the max i want to go though, I'm from Antwerp (btw i drive mainly for free so thats why petrol cost dont bother me).

The M.2 drives you should be looking at support 4-lane PCIe 3.0. Just check for this in the drive specifications.
