Hello internet peoples, I am hoping this will serve as preliminary discussion to the actual build thread. I currently am in possession of 4 opteron 6172, 2 opteron 6272, 2 opteron 6274, and 2 opteron 6278. I recently ordered 3 supermicro h8dgu-f dual socket motherboards and one quad socket delly c6145 motherboard for a planned quad socket mother board build later on. So for now I am wondering which opterons to use in each of the 3 supermicro boards. One machine will be strictly a render rig, the other for BOINC, and the final motherboard I would like to configure as a home media server. For the home media server I would like to throw my asus gtx 780 on it. So with that being said which cpu's should I out in which? I have my own thoughts on this but I would like to hear what you all have to say. I have heard the 6100 is better than 6200 series for BOINC. For the home media pc or render rig I am thinking 6276 or 6280. I will be building a custom case for these so I am very excited to share that with you all as well as all the awesome toys at my university's machine shop.

Some other things to note is that both the render rig and BOINC machine will have 32gb of ram, while the home media server will have 16gb to start with. In addition they will have noctua g34 coolers. So I still need to figure out power supplies,

So this is kind of rant but to some up some questions for you all.

-best OS for BOINC(leaning towards Linux)

-what CPUs to use in each build?

-anyone know anything about c6145 servers??

-anyone have any experience building opteron home media servers?

-more to come later today when I get home
