Ok so I've decided it's time for me to build my very first PC. I've never done it for myself before but played around with a few setups at school (that was a long time ago now).

I had a few PCs at home that my dad bought but now I live on my own (now in Thailand, originally from London) it's time to get something of my own.

Watching YouTube videos does with with almost everything I know but the one BIG problem I have is deciding which CPU will be best for me.

I'm looking to use my computer for work which involves word and excel, as well as may editing personal video/movies. I'm not a gamer so I don't need anything too fancy, but I would like the machine to work quite fast!

I've been looking at the intel g3258 cpu but not sure if that would be my best option! I have a budget of around $80-$150

Can anyone suggest any other CPUs that would fit my needs?

Please let me know if you can help!

The Pentium or maybe an I3, will fit your usage case quite good.

That time I saved Linus' WiFi pass from appearing on YouTube:

Video editing might take advantage of AMD's cores since they're crazy cheap per core, but it depends how much you use it b/c single core perf seriously suffers. Then again, 4 weak cores is pretty close to 2 strong ones and has less stuttering so maybe the athlon 860k or an fx?

Tip to those that are new on LTT forum- quote a post so that the person you are quoting gets a notification, otherwise they'll have no idea that you did. You can also use a tag such as @Ryoutarou97 (replace my username with anyone's. You should get a dropdown after you type the "@")to send a notification, but quoting is preferable.

Feel free to PM me about absolutely anything be it tech, math, literature, etc. I'll try my best to help. I'm currently looking for a cheap used build for around $25 to set up as a home server if anyone is selling.

If you are a native speaker please use proper English if you can. Punctuation, capitalization, and spelling are as important to making your message readable as proper night theme formatting is.

My build is fully operational, but won't be posted until after I get a GPU in it and the case arted up.

Yeah I3 was another potential option. Are AMD processors just for gaming or good for my needs also?

I would stick with an i3.. if your budget is $150~ you could get the highest end i3

Ok that looks good to me! If I had an overall budget of $400-$500 would it be feasible to build a good system, or am I better off buying an off the shelf system and doing a few upgrades?

Do you have an OS preference and a form factor preference? and $400-500~ just for  the computer? or peripherals aswell?

I'd actual recommend an AMD Athlon X4 860K for your needs. 4 cores for better gaming than with the Pentium and a higher base clock. It's also pretty damn cheap at $70 USD.

Intel Core i7-6700K | Corsair H105 | Asus Z170I PRO GAMING | G.Skill TridentZ Series 16GB | 950 PRO 512GB M.2

Asus GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB STRIX OC | BitFenix Prodigy (Black/Red) | XFX PRO Black Edition 850W
