PC Freezes when using both Ram Modules

Is the ram getting enough power? Try uping the voltage on it a little.. Is that the stock ram speed? is the XMP profile enabled (if it has one)

Hi all, I've got a bit of a problem on my hands. A few months ago I upgraded my PC (new cpu, mobo, ram, psu), and since then my PC has been freezing. It happens randomly, whether I'm gaming or just idling on the desktop. It also happens while booting sometimes. I thought it might be an issue with the Motherboard, so I exchanged it for a new one. That did not fix the problem, so I bought a new GPU, I needed one anyways, but the freezing continued. I thought it may be a problem with the power supply, so I bought a new one a few days ago. It kept freezing, so in a desperate attempt to get anything to work, I took out one of the memory sticks. Low and behold, the problem stopped! I ran the computer with 1 4GB stick for around a half hour without any problems, so I switched to the other memory stick. The other one ran fine for just as long, so I don't believe that either of the sticks are bad. I put both of them back in, and it started freezing once again. The ram is rated to run at 1.5V, and that is what it is set at in the BIOS. I have a SSD and a HDD that both have Windows installed on them, and it freezes on both drives, so I do not believe that it is a drive error. Any help is greatly appreciated!

PC Specs:

Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A-UD3P
Memory: 8GB (2x4) 1600Mhz Crucial Ballistix Sport
GPU: MSI OC GTX 960
PSU: Corsair CX750M 750Watt

Did you try to put both sticks in another slot?

I have both of the sticks running in the recommended slots, but I cannot fit the memory into the other two slots because the cpu cooler is blocking it.

Can you try to move the cooler a bit? Or try to run the stock cooler just to test it. It could be a problem that that channel doesn't work properly anymore.

Okay I moved both of the ram modules to the other channel, it booted fine and seems to be running alright for now. I'll game for awhile and see if it freezes

Not all ram is compatible with all CPUs/ motherboards.

Most are, but not all. Especially when you start buying more advanced memory.

My wife's computer has 2x4GB 2133Mhz Corsair dominator GT sticks.

The motherboard manual says use bay B1 + B2. It won't post in those slots.

A1 + A2 it works fine. Not a clue why, but many years ago (maybe a folks tale) B slots are for timings, A slots are for speed... Don't quote me on that!!

anyway, read the QVL, it will show you what memory has been tested on your board. What speeds and timings were used, and what volts. Also what slot.

It's not a race to the bottom.

I moved the memory to the other channel, and so far it seems to be working just fine, sounds like I may be in the same boat as you!

Okay so I moved the memory over to the other channel, the system ran fine for around an hour, then froze up again.

Maybe it isn't fully compatible like 0x1e said. Or you could try to reset your BIOS settings.

I upped the voltage to 1.6V and the PC has been running for 12+ Hours without any issues!
