Hard Disk error after new CPU install?

Hey guys, first post here.

Recently i upgraded from an FX4100 on a M5A97 R2.0 to an FX8350. I updated my BIOS to make sure it was compatible with the 8350 and all went well except it switched from IDE to AHCI and blue screened, but this was easily fixed. However, after installing the new CPU it refused to enter windows (it posted fine, bios settings seemed fine), but it gave a hard drive error which i can't precisely remember; something along the lines of it being unable to read from it. I googled the issue but all i got where claims that this message only appeared when a hard drive turned faulty, which i knew it wasn't because 10 mins before it had been running fine. I only fixed the issue by doing a fresh install of Win 7 OEM. Do any of you guys know why this happened and how I can avoid this issue in future? Thanks.

I think re-installing windows was your only solution so you did good.

I have seen in the past where before changing hardware people would go into Device Manager in windows. Uninstall all device drivers, turn off the system, change the hardware, Boot up and hopefully windows installs the new drivers. I have tried this in the past with no luck.

When in doubt Re-Install windows :)

Thanks for the advice. Would love to hear more about why exactly this happens as it's a bit annoying, but at least now i know :)

If you changed from IDE to AHCI, you usually bound to crash because Windows only recognizes the IDE setting.

Yea i know, I only mentioned it as it happened when updating the BIOS, but I immediately switched it back to IDE and it booted fine. The issue I experienced occurred after that.
