Mobo LAN chipset

Go to solution Solved by oliverjrose99,

What about reliability? I don't want my connection to drop intermittently.

Can you give me some examples of the various features?

None of them should drop out or disconnect unwillingly as long as your cable and router are fine. I'm using the Ethernet on a 2009 laptop and that still gives me good speeds and low ping.

For features:

The killer chipsets has software that allows for trafic management e.g. gaming packets first, video second, etc. Intel allow you to use 2 together without additional software. Some are more power efficient, etc.

I'm interested in a budget Z97 motherboard and trying to figure out the differences between some of the offerings. I've read that Intel LAN is king. Is this true? Any Intel LAN chipset or is there one in particular? Or is it fine to consider boards with other chipsets?

I don't think Intel lan is 'king' as different chipsets offer different features, etc. Each chipset should do the speeds advertised though.

it doesnt matter

don't worry about it, as in you don't need to pay extra looking for motherboard with intel chipset on it

but also avoid motherboard with "KILLER LAN" with it, I've seen too much trouble and problems than it advertised.
