Pc fan tutorial for a dummy?

AveragePCguy

Could someone help me out and explain different cables that are related to PC case fans?

I tried looking around but found nothing that suited my needs.

The thing I'm trying to accomplish is, I have a S340 case with the two 120mm fans it comes with, 2 NZXT 140mm fans and the CM Nepton 120mm AIO liquid cooler. I'm trying to get all the fans except for the cooler synced. Synced as in being able to manually control their speed.

I'm not sure what I need, I did order this stuff just to get free shipping on amazon but I think I might need other things as well.

as long as you plugged the PWM header into the motherboard you can manually control them using motherboard utilities (ex : i'm using MSI Command Center).

I also got S340 case, and i can control all the speed. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B46XKKQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 this one can be used.

Or, you can buy https://www.nzxt.com/product/detail/148-GRID-digital-fan-controller.html NZXT Grid to control it via CAM software(NZXT).

My NZXT fans are 3 pin, does that affect anything?

nope, you'll be just fine.

Is it possible to use a 4-pin PWM fan or CPU cooler with a motherboard which has only 3-pin fan headers on it?

Electrically, there is no problem doing this - the fourth pin on the fan cable is used purely for PWM control and is not needed in order for the fan to run. So you can plug the 4-pin fan connector onto the 3-pin motherboard fan header, leaving the fourth pin not connected to anything. The fan will potentially run at full speed, so if you would like to reduce the speed of the fan you will need to adjust the fan speed setting in your BIOS or use fan control software such as SpeedFan in Windows.
