I have a crappy old pc, it was working really good till the end of last year, now i guess its life is getting over. Its like 10-12 years old. I would like to know if i could upgrae this (i highly doubt i can cuz of the specs xD). most probably i need to change all of the parts. so what do u guyz think i should do?

Current Specs:

CPU: Pentium 4 640 3.2GHz,single core, 2mb cache (has hyper-threading, really old, 90nm architecture, socket 775)

RAM: 2GB ddr2 (i dont know the speed though, i think its around 266-533 mhz

Storage: western digital caviar black 500gb (im gonna keep this, dont need recommendations for hdd)

PSU: Came with the pc, sketchy of course, low watts around 200 i think

Motherboard: Intel mobo, came with pc

Video card: none :)

Cooler: Stock

Case: Came with pc,has really bad airflow, need a new one of course

My budget is 300-400$. I wanna build a gaming pc that can play at 768p/720p in medium to high settings. Games like gta v, bf hardline, etc.

I recommend getting a video card first and adding some ram.

With such an old pc you should just get a new one and start fresh. I am not familiar with such old parts and I am not sure of compatability issues or bottlenecking that may occur.

This can do 720p gaming easily I should think, and can do 1080 in less demanding titles.

There is no point in upgrading a PC that old. Even the power supply will be incompatible with current hardware.

A really solid parts list by the looks of it though you would have to replace the HDD as the motherboard, and about 99% of all modern motherboards has no support for IDE/PATA drives.

There are adapters one can use I believe. Even so if I was him I'd just get a new HDD too, they'll be faster.

Just curious, where is an IDE/PATA drive mentioned?
