So a couple of friends and I are making a game, basically its a burnout clone because we are all jelly that paradise never had a sequel. The basic things are dialed in such as car count around 80 at the moment, some are modeled, some arent, we cant afford licenses being teens and all. We also thought that we could fuse that burnout fun factor with the modding abilities of the older nfs games. We think it could be done around Q4 this year but there isnt an official date yet(no screenshots, so many placeholders currently that its gonna look very bad).

Anyways ive got a few questions that ive been asking a few racing communities to determine good and bad ideas. Basically I want to find out what you would like and or dislike.

Q1. Each car will have basic skins with the game normally, eg metallic, matte, glossy colours like blue, green, red. We are thinking of using the marketplace to sell better skins like how csgo works at the moment. Basically you buy a loot crate with differing rarity or find on in game and pay 10p to open it and you get win or cry in a corner. What are your opinions on this?

Q2. Another thought we had was using the loot system from mmos like borderlands and doing what the crew failed to do, have thousands of cars, basically we have say 6 manufactures with 3 base cars, 5 body kits and then a multitude of other rubbish to improve the car stats like less damage or quicker gear shifting etc. You would gain these loot cars by winning events, doing challenges, killing npc cars or attacking boss cars. Would you like this sort of system in a racing game?

Q3. What are your opinions on offroad racing, currently we are only going tarmac and dirt. I was thinking of an idea where there is gravel, snow, sludgy snow, black ice etc. Your drive-train such as FF, FR or AWD will be effected depending on the surface then.

Q4. Realism vs Crazy: What are your thoughts on super natural events, we have rain in the game, it doesnt look nice atm due to a hail of missing texture errors. back on topic we were messing with filters and we had an idea, how would you like hell rain, red rain producing a red mist on the ground, it for some unknown reason makes all cars faster which in turn makes them harder to control. Would this be an interesting feature in a game like this?

Q5. Cockpit views: We arent looking to make a simulator so we are curious about this one, would you prefer an in car view or just bonnets, rear and chase cams, it would take up a lot of time, im the only modeler on the team and interior views are hell, literally hell, if you have ever modelled a 3d car you would know the horror that it causes.

Q6. Old vs new cars: This has been argued many times, currently we have made around 17 cars in terms of models, all are similar to modern cars(year 2000+). Do you think we should focus on all time periods or focus on a certain period in time such as the 60s,70s, 80s, 90s or the modern era.

Q7: Mod support or mod support: I dont even have to ask this do I.

Thanks for your time.

A1: A marketplace would be nice but also getting skins as a rare drop would be nice too.

A2: Loot systems in a car games are always a hit and miss (look at the crew -.-) It sounds like a good idea if you can implement it right!

A3: The more the merrier. Also have you guys been thinking about dynamic weather and if so how rain and other conditions would affect your driving.

A4: If you're making it a paradise clone make it crazy. Paradise was such a great game and I would love to see a good successor behind or ahead of it.

A5: I'm a cockpit view lover. I just love it so muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch but if you're the only modeler add it in later. No point in taking more time than needed when it's something you can do later or maybe even the community!

A6: I honestly feel like this one is on your team. I would love to see this but it's your game put whatever you want in it.

A7: Silly question. OFC

If you ever need testers I would love to c:

Q1, if its 10p of real money, np. in app purchases are just a pain in the ass. if its in game money that you can win/earn then sure.

Q2: a boss car in a racing game? but make it work and it could come out well

Q3: more work to do for you but in my opinion, have variation in track layout, not the surface.

Q4: you either go realistic, or you go crazy. there is no point having a middle behind this. maybe have cheat codes or an option menu where you can implement this but if you do decide to go with the red rain, don't completely destroy the steering.

Q5: if you going to do it, do it completely or not at all.

Q6: im not fussed about this one but yeah, sure if you want

Q7 yeaahhhh

Should do a kickstarter or something

i was thinking about it but no one is gonna trust the project if we dont have much to show. Most of the games on kickstarter do the wrong things first which is focus on the visuals, after talking to a few dev teams we came to the conclusion that ironing out the mechanics first matters more, then we dont have a panic before launch because of crazy bugs, for reference we are making physics for all cars using a single model with like 200 polys thats like less then ps1 stuff.

Its a grind but its part of the experience.

A1. I personally hate those kind of things

A2. Sounds a bit like Blur, But i'd personally prefer it if it was a realistic sandbox racing game

A3. All the yeses

A4. Actually, that sounds like a pretty cool idea but make it occur in only certain terrains like the desert to make it ominous.

A5. Personally I like it in 3rd person to look at the nice cars but others might prefer cockpit views but like you said, it's a nightmare to model.

A6. Im gonna say it's nice to have a diverse range of cars from different eras

A7. *clears throat*

1. That would be nice as you could have a certain skin for each model. Or you could make specific skins for each of the models. At this point it may be an afterthought until you finish the core game. As per ThyFeared stated, it might be nice to also add in skin drops. However I am against RNG in this state of rare drops. It's not fun to grind and work for a rare skins for weeks only to have someone else come in and have the same item drop for them in a couple hours.

2. Again, it would be nice to see what you can achieve if you do add this feature in. It would be a nice way to maximize player creations especially if you can create many unique drops. However having some items you can buy or 'achieve' may also be nice for those that spend lots of time in the game.

3. It would be nice if you added this into the game. I am a fan of the many off road maps seen in other racing games. Depending on the style of the game you could also have random events which could occur to the map. Such as a random flood, rock slide, etc. Just my own ideas on the matter.

4. This would be entirely up to you and your team. Both have their advantages to the style you want to go with. In my opinion I would suggest focusing on one path and not both. You don't really see many successful games which will trend in both realism and crazy game styles. However you may be just the team to get it right.

5. I personally love the cockpit view in any game. It really helps bring a new level of play to any game. However as you are the only modeler on the team I understand if you would like to overlook this functionality.

6. It would totally be nice to see many different era cars added into a game. Again, it would depend on your team. It may be easier to finish the base game with modern vehicles now. Then add in the older model cards after release so you have some more time to test and configure any of the settings/specifications.

7. When you allow mods you open up a much greater avenue for your game. I also enjoy that mods allow anyone to add their creativity to the community of players.

As a final note good luck in your endeavor!
