I'm building my first PC to take with me to college. I'm spending MAX $1000 USD for the parts plus a monitor. (I have a keyboard and mouse that will be good for awhile) I've been advised to pick the CPU first and then find a compatible motherboard. I'm looking to play games such as cyrsis 3, BF4. . . ETC. I've seen that an i5 would be sufficient for gaming. I want to learn to overclock as well. Any suggestions? (I have no brand preference, just something that would give the best performance in my price range) thanks in advance

I would suggest giving up the overclocking in favor of an ssd and better gpu. I generally suggest a smaller build with WiFi for college use. Dorm rooms are not known for their spaciousness.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
