Hi guys,

I just ordered a Samsung 840 Pro 128GB SSD and figured that since my GTX 460 is already a few years old it may be a good idea to just go all out and build myself a new rig instead of upgrading my current one. I have a few questions:

1. Is it worth getting a 4770K if I already have a 2600K? Should I reuse the current CPU and motherboard in the new build?

2. Should I get a full tower case even if I will not be using an EATX motherboard? I currently have a mid tower and would probably appreciate the extra space.

3. I was thinking of doing a white-themed build since all my cases so far have been black. Are there any good but not outrageously expensive white cases with a side window? And also are there any graphics cards that would fit a white-themed build?

I would appreciate any sort of feedback. Thanks!

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

1. If you're just gaming, no.

2.If you need the room and you're gonna use it then sure why not

3.Define R4 white is pretty nice but as for full towers, don't really know :/

Do you think I would be able to get more performance if I used my money to upgrade my current rig instead of building a new one? That would leave me with more cash to get a sound card, more memory etc.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

How would i know? i don't know any of your specs other than cpu ...... but look into getting a better gpu. 780 or 7950 depending on budget

Your 2600K has life left in it, especially if you're overclocking.  Get a full tower case if you want one but most people probably don't need one.  I find they're just too big for my tastes but if you like it, go with it.  As far as white cases with a window, it depends on what you mean by outrageously expensive.  Ones that come to my mind are the Corsair Vengeance C70, Corsair 600T, NZXT Phantom 530, NZXT Switch 810, Bitfenix Colossus, and the Antec P280.  There are probably others though.  As far as matching graphics cards, your choices are limited.  Galaxy showcased two cards with white pcbs at Comptex but I have no idea on their availability.  You might be better off going with black accents for everything you can't get in white.

As far as performance, it depends on your budget.  Your biggest gains in gaming would be with your GPU.  Personally, I think you'd be wasting a lot of money by getting a whole new CPU and motherboard.  Just my opinion though.

Thanks for the advice :) would I be better off going with a GTX 770 or should I be patient and wait for the 8000 series since they should be launching soon?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

I have custom water cooling :) not getting super low temps (around 50C at full load) but that's probably because I'm using a 30mm rad

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

ohh you have a nice setup. Get yourself a 7950 and put a water block on it. No need to buy a new pc.

Would it really be necessary to add a water block? I only have a 240mm radiator so that may be an issue.

it would be nice. You would get very nice performance and quiet pc. $280 for reference 7950 +$100 for a water block which is cheaper than a 770. general rule of thumb is 120mm worth of rad every heatsource. So 120mm for 7950 and 120mm for your 2600k and you have a 240 so you should be fine. You could easily add an extra 120mm rad so you have a 240 and a 120 . the 7950 really pulls away from the crowed once you OC it. if you oc it to 1200mhz, you should be able to out perform a 770. If you really don't want to watercool it, just get something like an asus dcuii and you are golden

If I add the GPU + 120mm rad to my loop, then will the 7950 (or whatever graphics card I choose) technically be being cooled by BOTH the 240mm and 120mm rad?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

There really isn't space for another rad except at the back and front 120mm fan slots, and the front fan should be reserved for cooling the hard drives

120 at the back and 240 at the top is a common settup. you might want to do that

Would it be a better idea to wait for the 8000 series? The 7950 will be replaced by AMD very soon.

If you can wait with your 460. I heard the 8000 series will have a new never settle bundle coming with bf4, watch dogs and a few other games i forgot

How about performance vs 7000 series :) Will it be significant? tbh I was really disappointed with the new 760. Performance is only around 2-3FPS more than the 660 ti

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

I don't know much about 8000 series. I read a rumor saying there won't be a new gpu for 2013. The 7950 is still a good card seeing as it keeps up with gtx770 (within 3 frames max). But if the 8000 series are coming this year, i would also wait. But if it's coming in 2014, i would go with an upgrade now since i like nice graphics :). It really depends man. Do you need to upgrade? what games are you playing? what settings do you want to run it at as well as resolution?. Maybe you just want to upgrade because you have money. If i were you, i would throw money into a bank to let it grow.

yeah. I don't think its an upgrade for people with 660ti. It comes at a lower price point so  its for new system builders.

My 460 is starting to struggle with some of the new games, but I am willing to wait around a month if the 8000 series are coming soon. Since Nvidia just released a whole bunch of new cards AMD will probably want to hurry up and release theirs.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?
