Okay i figured it out. (with my 3rd MoBo)

 

Well I thought - the disks are working on my old mainboard and connected via USB - so they should work in the new MoBo as well.

 

Wrong assumption.

 

The disks I have are Samsung HD502HJ (SATA 3Gb/s) models.

They have a documented firmware bug concerning the initial handshake between the controller and the disk.

 

I will put together my old pc this weekend and install the firmware update on the disks...
