No HDMI on playback devices

Hi guys, I've connected my Asus laptop to my Samsung TV via HDMI but I only get video and not audio. I've tried showing disabled and disconnected devices in the playback devices menu but there is still no HDMI device shown. My Samsung tv works just fine with audio and video when used with my set top box to watch television channels. I've checked all my audio drivers and they are working fine. I've even got a 3.5mm audio jack and plugged it into my laptop and the TV but that still doesn't work. I googled A LOT (i mean really A LOT) but all of them seem like they have no fixes. Can anyone help me with this? =(
