Randomly losing Steam files?

So I played Crysis 1 yesterday and it was fine i go to play it again today and 10 files were missing. I validated the files and it started redownloading them and when it was done the game still wouldn't load.

 

What the hell is going in with my Steam games?

 

PS: i tried Crysis warhead and it has all the files but it too won't launch i just get a black screen.

i had something like that once, and found out that my SSD was dieing. check if that happen with anything else other than steam.

My games are on a HDD that is in known good health.

How old is the drive? It sounds very similar to what happened to an old drive my brother had, suddenly sw:kotor was just missing or corrupt. The drive failed after a couple of months ...
