Most quiet fan layout?

Right now my fan layout is rather stupid. I have all nzxt phantom fans in stockpositions, then I added 2 corsair afs on the remaining top slot and the intake slot. The nzxt fans are noisy so I think I might remove them. What fan layout would be best for quiet?

What case are you using?

Hello whitephoenix,

The fan layout that produces fewest noise is the one without fans ;)

If that is not an option it is important to use silent fans. Personally i use NF-F12 as case fans although there are some that produce even less noise.

The arrangement of your fans does not affect noise in a significant way (as long as your cablemanagement is done properly).

Well I have 2 AF fans which are really close to silent, but my PSU is a fairly big noise source. I'm thinking replace the 2 stock fan positions with afs and nzxt fan in back

As i said, the amount and placement of fans is not really an issue as long as you use good and silent running fans.

Silencing the PSU, however, is a totally different job. Can you figure out if the noise comes from the fan or eventually is produced by vibrations? In the second case you could reduce the noise by redcing the vibration (rubber paddings etc).

It's the fan.

I kinda had the same problem with a PSU, The fan was dying and making all sorts of nasty noise so I opened it up and replaced it  with a noctua F12 and put it on a fan controlled header (tho i suppose you could use the low resistor adatper).  Most silent PSU i've ever had =P
