so while stress testing using Kombustor and playing Tomb Raider 2013 my cousins GPU (GTX 660) temps reach a constant and stable 81°C. are those temps normal or should he try and lower the temps?

It's fine during stress tests.

It will usually not be going that high in game scenarios

well even while playing Tomb Riader 2013 it will reach and stay at 81°C

That is the default limit set by Nvidia, the GPU clock will throttle down to keep the temperature around 80c. You can try use manual fan control in MSI Afterburner to lower the temp.

yeah i forgot i could regulate the fan speed in Afterburner :P

Customize the fan curve and be sure its set to auto. Whats the brand/cooler on the card?

Also, if the GPU is old, make sure there is'nt that much dust on the heatsink. (it blocks the air flow.)
