Hey guys so I got my new monitor which was no where close to the one I was initally sugguested (Benq VZ2350HM 23" 1080p) instead I got a Benq GW765 27" 1440p monitor (haha can't even run a game properly now xD) but now my problem is that do I need to calibrate the color in order to get the most out of the display. I have read that using display port (the one I am using) automatically corrects everything but is this true? If not the how do I properly calibrate? I have tried using online ICC profiles but I haven't noticed a difference at all.

The purpose of calibration is to match the monitor to a printer that is also properly calibrated, so that images on the screen look exactly the way they will when printed out. It has nothing to do with making the image look as "good" or "correct" as possible. If you don't need to print perfectly color-accurate images, calibration won't do anything for you.

And no, using DisplayPort will not auto-calibrate the screen. If you need to calibrate the screen you will need to spend a nice chunk of money on a colorimeter and other calibration equipment.

For the average person something like http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/ will do (or even factory calibration), or getting some pictures/test patterns professionally printed and adjusting the screen to match as best as you can but if you're serious about having the monitor calibrated properly you need a calibration device, something like a Spyder or similar.

Oh I understand now, I guess that display port thing was just a hoax then. I don't have too much more money to spend so I think I'll pass haha. Thank you.

I'll try that out, thank you.
