So I have an Intel i5 2320 still in its retail box that my uncle gave me. Now after Christmas I am building a computer and I don't have all that much money, so my question is:

Would it be good to go with the old lga 1155 even tho there isn't an upgrade path, but there is a price savings? Please let me know.

Yeah, get the best you can so use that cpu and get an 1155 motherboard, the cost savings mean a good gpu and an ssd.

The i5 2320 still seems like a pretty good CPU. And since you're getting it for free, that's a deal I wouldn't turn down. Definitely go for it.

I think I should just point out though just in case you don't know - you won't be able to overclock that CPU by adjusting the multiplier because it's not an unlocked CPU (those will have a 'k' at the end of the number). You will be able to overclock it slightly by adjusting the BCLK, but that's not really recommended because changing it affects other parts of your computer as well, not just your CPU - which is something you don't really want to happen.

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.
