7970 GPU only Waterblock

Remember the GTX 580? Where you could take any universal gpu cooler and have a great performing gpu? Well it was because you didn't have to remove the fans to install the block, so the VRM had airflow...

Does anyone know if this is possible in a 7970 without ruining the card? It looks like you can just pop of the heat-sink.

Yeah just do a custom loop. Youll get better performance, more options in terms of appearance and you can add your cpu too the loop aswell.
