I want to build a home server to replace my current nas box. I live in a small apartment so I want to make it as silent as possible and as small as possible. And yes the hard drives will still make some noise I realize that.

My biggest concern is the temperature  of the hard drives, If that will be a problem.

Her is the build I am thinking

CPU - Intel Core i3-4130T 2.9GHz Dual-Core Processor

CPU Cooler - Zalman FX100 CPU Cooler

Motherboard - Asus H87I-PLUS Mini ITX LGA1150 Motherboard

Memory - Crucial 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

Storage - Western Digital Caviar Green 3TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive x2 + 2 2 TB HD i have already

Case - Fractal Design Node 304 Mini ITX Tower Case

Power Supply - SeaSonic 520W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

I would take out the fans that comes with the case.

Is this a cracy idear or woude it work?

I am also considering changing the motherboard/cpu/cpu cooler with the ASRock C2550D4I widths have a build in cpu and passive cooler.

Is this a crazy ideer or would it work?

If any one has any experience with a build like this or any other input it would we appreciated

Is your apartment climate controlled? I would be very hesitant to have no fans in the case at all. The fans are included, so this may be something you can experiment with once you get the parts. Test it's noise with fans on, fans off, monitor temperatures... If the fans are too loud maybe consider getting some alternatives? Or just low speed adapters.
