ahci boot drive

JanY

I'm buying the samsung evo 120gb ssd later today and I'm going to install windows 8.1 pro on it. I already have 3 other "secondary" internal drives in my system (two hdd, 1 ssd) which I believe are all in ide mode.

Can I configure my new boot drive in ahci mode, or will these other drives not be recognized if I don't pick ide for boot drive?

Is ahci better than ide mode? Is the samsung evo a waste of money if I can't use special "ahci" features? (I'm not changing purchase)

Does it matter that my old os was windows 7 for these other internal drives?

I tried googling but all i find is people asking how to change a drive from ide to ahci.

If you can help me with one or more of these questions I'll be very happy :3

IDE is for older drives, usually with a molex power and ribbon data connector. I'd advise using ahci where possible.
