Hey guys. Recently my laptop decided to stop working. I was using it as normal one day, turned it off like normal, and then the next day I turn it on and the screen is blank. The fan is spinning and the power light is on as normal, but the screen remains blank.

I bought this piece of equipment which tells me a diagnostic code (shown in the image) and this is the code I received. I have had the laptop apart today, cleaned everything, taken everything out, then put back in about an hour later, everything screwed back into place, all; connections fine like normal, finalise the laptop and ready for turn on, and I still get the same message. Can anybody help me with this error POSTcode number of 01FF. It is driving me insane!

Thank you for reading,

Kind Regards

Steven

I have tried before and still black screen. I suppose I can always try again, shall I do this HDMI or the VGA slot guys? Which will be best for results?

It shouldn't matter. Is there an option on the keyboard to choose between display outputs? It might not automatically mirror/use another monitor.

/After it 'boots' up, can you enter your password (through the black screen), open up a music player and play something? (to see if its the display or not). This way you can avoid any potential issues with a secondary display not being detected/automatically used.

I have an old crappy monitor from an old PC I could use to plug in via VGA cable, I will go and get it now from the attic and see. Also, I got no log on noise like I should do, but anyway be right back just go and get this monitor :)

Well, I'm not sure if theres some stupid-ass clause in your laptop that would stop it from booting if there was no connected working monitor; but I doubt it......If you don't hear any start up noise then theres probably something else other than the monitor. I would still suggest pretending like it booted up and making sure to put the volume up anyway and playing some music just to be sure the boot up sound isn't muted.

I am back. I have a video but I do not how to add into the convo. I tried the laptop via VGA to my TV as I could not find the old monitor. I then tried the laptop to my TV via HDMI and still no result with this. I entered a CD into the disk tray, it span up and did nothing (not playing). I don't think I can even get past the log in screen, I tried entering password in through black screen which came to no avail. :(

Did you smell anything burnt when you took it apart?

--FF error codes are usually a failure to post. Are you under warranty?

Nope, didn't smell anything burning. I cleaned everything out, compressed air and a micro fiber cloth. Applied some new thermal pasts to the CPU. And nope it is not under warranty, this laptop is like 5/6 years old! Had it a while now, good few years and its been great, just over the last 2 week is where this black screen problem occurred just out of the blue for no reason.
