I am thinking about getting this R9 285:

However, I am wondering if a 280x is really that much better? This 280x is cheaper:

But there are no reviews on the product and it is a reference cooler. Which one should I go for? I am in need of a new video card ASAP so I would really rather not wait for a new series of card to come out. Thanks!

That is slightly out of my price range. I've only set aside about $200 for a new video card so yeah. Not really willing to go over much more than that.

Since that is a deal, at $300 is the r9 290 competitive with the $340-360 970?

^^ this youtube video comparison should help you.

However if I were you I would wait, just be patient, until you have enough money for a gtx 970, because that card BY FAR gets you THE MOST bang for your buck, so once you have ~350$ saved up and you buy a 970 you'll thank me. Because if you do go with a r9 280x or a r9 285 you will be upgrading in the next few months which will cost you more money. So go big now and you'll save money in the long run.

It goes like this 280x > 285 > 280.
