Hi i'm new to building my own PC, and this is my first time. I've spent a few months doing research and I've come up with a part list. All thought, recommendations and criticism are appreciated.

Please Keep in mind that i'm opting for a Red and Black build, and i would like to stick to that colour scheme.

The main reason why i started to build my own PC was because i managed to get my hands on some parts.

I already have the following components

  • HDD : Seagate Barracuda 1 TB HDD
  • SSD: Samsung 850 Pro 128gb SSD
  • Cooler: Corsair H100i
  • Ram: Corsair Vengeance Pro DDR3 2 x 4 GB 2400mhz
  • PSU: Cosair RM750

The parts i plan to get to build the PC are,

  • Mobo : Asus Maximus VII Hero
  • Processor: Intel i5-4690k
  • Case: NZXT H440 (red and black)
  • GPU : Nvidia GTX 970 (Msi Or Asus)

The parts i'm most unsure of are the motherboard and the processor, as well what what brand of GTX970 to get (currently decided on MSI because of better specs and performance) please help me analyse and critic my build, and are there any other alternatives to the parts that may offer better value/performance in the same price bracket? Thanks for your taking your time to read throught my post!

I would steer well clear of Asus Maximus motherboards unless you have a very good reason to spend the extra money. There's no such thing as a "gaming motherboard", and you'll be able to get almost all of the same features for a different board that's half the price.

Other than that the build looks pretty solid. It's a toss-up between Asus and MSI's GTX 970. They're both clocked identically, but the MSI one is cheaper and the Asus one has a gorgeous backplate. :P

You Build looks VERY similar to mine so here is my build http://pcpartpicker.com/user/pyropanda1/saved/xYKhP6

My colour scheme is Red and Black as well.

It mainly depends on what you plan on using this for if you intend on using this for gaming then what you have is fine but if you plan on using this for editing then perhaps switch to an i7 and add another 2x4gb of RAM.

Out of personal preference I would go with an MSI gtx 770 as it looks beast, performs well and sticks with that black and red colour scheme.

And perhaps switch to an MSI motherboard as its just as good as and asus but with a lower pricetag.

But i've read certian reviews of the MSI GTX 970 being better than the ASUS Strix because of the components as well as certain aspects. The backplate is certainly sexy though

I am centering this build around gaming, What would be an equivalent for the mother board? An MSI gaming 5?
